An old fridge is 250 lbs, an awkward shape, and illegal to dump — the refrigerant inside has to be recovered by a certified technician before the unit can be scrapped. That's why most people leave it where it is for three years.
We take fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters and furnaces. Basement, garage, second floor, doesn't matter.

- Fridge
- Refrigerant has to be recovered by a certified technician before a fridge is scrapped, so it goes to a certified recycler and never the landfill. An honest note first: if yours still works, Efficiency Manitoba will pick it up free and pay you a $30 rebate. Take that. - Freezer
- The same refrigerant rules as a fridge. A chest freezer out of a basement is one of the more awkward carries in a house, so mention the stairs. Working units qualify for the same free Efficiency Manitoba pickup and rebate.Also: Chest freezer, Deep freeze, Upright freezer
- Stove
- Electric ranges we unplug and take. Gas ranges must be disconnected by a licensed gas fitter before we arrive. That is the law, not our preference.Also: Range, Oven, Wall oven, Cooktop
- Dishwasher
- We handle the water line and the drain if you have not. It goes to scrap.Also: Built-in dishwasher
- Washer
- Front-loaders carry a concrete counterweight and are far heavier than they look. We cap the water lines if they are still connected.Also: Washing machine, Front-load washer, Top-load washer, Stacked washer dryer
- Dryer
- Electric dryers unplug. Gas dryers need a licensed gas fitter to disconnect them first. The vent comes out with it.Also: Clothes dryer
- Microwave
- Small kitchen appliances go through electronics recycling. Over-the-range microwaves are bolted to a cabinet and a wall bracket; we take them down.Also: Over-the-range microwave, Toaster oven, Small appliances, Blender, Kettle
- Range hood
- Unbolted and taken as part of a kitchen tear-out.Also: Exhaust hood, Stove hood
- Air conditioner
- Contains refrigerant, so it goes the same certified route as a fridge. Central air condensers must be disconnected by an HVAC technician before we take them.Also: Window AC, Portable AC, AC unit, Central air condenser, Heat pump
- Water heater
- A 40 or 50 gallon tank weighs far more than people expect once sediment has settled in the bottom. Drain it if you can. Gas units need a licensed fitter to disconnect them.Also: Hot water tank, Hot water heater, Tankless water heater
- Furnace
- Usually removed during a replacement, when your HVAC contractor has already disconnected it. The steel goes to scrap.Also: Old furnace, Boiler, Ductwork, HVAC ducting
- Dehumidifier
- Dehumidifiers contain refrigerant, so they go to a certified recycler rather than general disposal.Also: Humidifier, Air purifier
- Water softener
- Disconnected and drained, with the salt and resin out before it travels.Also: Brine tank

What happens to my old fridge?
It goes to a certified appliance recycler who recovers the refrigerant with a certified technician. That is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we can tell you where your unit went.
Can you get an appliance out of a basement?
Yes. Winnipeg character homes often have basement stairs too narrow for a standard appliance dolly, so we bring stair-climbing gear. Mention the stairs when you book.
Do you take more than one appliance at a time?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper per item. A full load of metal appliances may qualify for a reduced rate because we recover value on the scrap.

Unplug it if you can. We will handle water lines and dryer vents. Gas appliances must be disconnected by a licensed gas fitter before we arrive.
